Moving past the crowds, get a glimpse of the completely undiscovered La Isleta peninsula, a natural protected area, where panoramic photo opportunities of this stunning wild coast await. Pass by Mercado del Puerto, serving as a farmers’ market during the day before turning into a vibrant street food spot in the evening. Make like a local and take a public bus (ticket included) and ride to the neighborhood of Vegueta, the oldest part of the city known for its colorful colonial architecture. If time permits pay a visit to Mercado de Vegueta, the oldest market in the Canary Islands to taste some local fruits.
Next up is the historical point where the city of Las Palmas was founded, the famous Santa Ana cathedral and Casa de Colon (Columbus Museum) are in the Old Town. Walk along the less crowded streets of the Triana neighborhood and be inspired to take Instagram-worthy pictures of the area’s colorful houses that date to colonial times.
You will have worked up an appetite buy now so next stop by a local cafe or restaurant to enjoy a delicious, typical Canarian lunch, made with local and fresh ingredients.
