The excitement begins when you leave the port area after you board the motor coach for a scenic ride north of Gothenburg, to the beautiful medieval town of Kungalv. From its picturesque main street, view the impressive Bohus Fortress, the remnant of the old border between Sweden and Norway. Constructed in the early 1300s out of granite and rock, this sturdy fortress was attacked multiple times throughout history but never captured.
Continue on to the island of Marstrand, accessible only by ferry. Keep an eye out during your approach for Carlstens Fortress, a massive, 17th century stone castle perched high on the rocks. While at Marstrand enjoy a guided walk through the medieval town with its smooth cobblestone streets and white wooden houses.
After a delicious lunch back on the mainland, you will visit the towns of Tjörn and Orust. Stop at Tjörn Bridge while en route for impressive views and photos of the Askerö Fjord and west coast landscape. Pass by the modern town of Stenungsund, as well as the colorful fishing village of Klädesholmen dotted with red and white cottages.
Conclude your tour at the charming village of Skärhamn with its fishing boats and dock houses before your return trip back to port.
