Your journey begins in the region’s capital, Puerto Montt. This active town began as a small fishing village. The city’s neoclassical cathedral, built from wood in the 19th century, overlooks Plaza de Armas square. Nearby, Casa del Arte Diego Rivera displays contemporary works by local and national artists. Just outside the city lie Caleta de Angelmo Market and Calbuco, an active volcano.
Your day of discovery will continue as you make your way to Puerto Varas. Founded by German settlers in 1854, Puerto Varas proudly displays its quaint European shops and architecture. Located on the southwest banks of the expansive Lake Llanquihue, which offers commanding views of snow-capped Osorno Volcano and Calbuco Volcano, both still active. Built in the early 20th century, the red-and-white Sacred Heart of Jesus Church has 3 striking towers.
Continue with a drive toward the breathtaking Osorno Volcano. Upon taking in the beauty along the shore of Llanquihue Lake (Chile’s second largest lake), your guide will escort you inside the Vicente Perez Rosales National Park to see the impressive Petrohue River Falls. Be prepared for an exhilarating succession of azure blue rapids against a backdrop of mountains and the emerald green “Todos Los Santos” Lake.
A lunch stop will allow for you to get a feel of the local cuisine (not included in tour price). You will then make your way back to the port area and your ship at the end of the tour after experiencing an amazing day of panoramic and scenic beauty.
