Southern Governorate
The Southern Governorate has the largest area of the four governorates of Bahrain, and the smallest population. It includes parts of Bahrain’s old municipalities – Al Mintaqah al Gharbiyah, Ar Rifa’ wa al Mintaqah al Janubiyah, and Juzur Hawar. It is the least populated of the regions on Bahrain.The Southern Governorate makes up almost two thirds of Bahrain’s area, but is sparsely populated and home to less than a tenth of the country’s 1.5 million inhabitants. Administratively the governorate also includes the cities of Riffa and Sitrah and the Hawar Islands.
