South Gyeongsang
South Gyeongsang is a province of South Korea that extends along the Korea Strait, west of Busan city. The provincial capital, Changwon, is famed for the light shows of Yongji Lake and for cherry-blossom viewing. Northeast of Changwon, the Junam Wetlands Park hosts migratory birds. Farther north, the Upo Wetland is known for summer fireflies. Inland, there are hot springs and spa resorts in the hills around Bugok.
The province is part of the Yeongnam region, on the north by North Gyeongsang Province, on the west by North Jeolla Province and South Jeolla Province, and on the south by the Korea Strait far from Nagasaki Prefecture, Japan. Most of the province is drained by the Nakdong River and its tributaries. The total area of the province is 10,533 square kilometres.
