Bingol
Bingol Province is a province of Turkey in Eastern Anatolia. The province was known as Capakcur Province until 1945 when it was renamed as Bingol province.Its neighboring provinces are Tunceli, Erzurum, Mus, Diyarbakır, Erzincan and Elazıg. The province covers an area of 8,125 km2 and has a population of 255,170. The capital is Bingol. As the current Governor of the province, Kadir Ekinci was appointed by the president on the 5 November 2018.
Once part of the Assyrian empire, the region was added to the Ottoman Empire in the early 16th century. Bingol suffered heavy damage by earthquakes in 1966 and 2003.It is a market for grain, livestock, and livestock products of the area. The city is linked by main roads with Elazıg to the east and Mus to the west. The surrounding area is drained by the Murat River and its tributaries and is largely mountainous. Croplands are scarce, and livestock raising is the main activity. Many of the people are Kurds.
