The town of Nuwara Eliya (pronounced Nureliya) is situated at an altitude of 2000 metres, about 3 hours drive from Kandy and five hours from Colombo. The town is known for 3 contributions that the British made – 1. Tea 2. Likening it to Scotland for its climate and 3. The fascinating Nuwara Eliya Golf Club, which to this day remains a challenging design with the ups and downs and the tight fairways lined by mature trees. The verandah of the quaint colonial clubhouse is a great place to sit and relax over a cup of Dilmah after the round.
