Attractions in Kosovo

Archaeological
Ulpiana
Today’s ruins of the ancient Roman city named Ulpiana after Empreor Justinian who built it in the beginning of the 4th century, lie only XX kilometers from Kosovo’s capital, amidst vast cornfields. Beautifully cared for, the grounds offer visitors history and a walking experience.
Novoberdo
A castle by any name still stands strong the same. Known as Novus Mons, Novamonte or Nyeuberghe, it used to be a metropolis inside a medieval fortress erected on the top of an extinct volcano. Nowadays, the remains of the castle loom over the town of Novobërda.
Dresnik
Drensik is one of the most important archaeological localities not only in Kosovo but also in the region. The site is in the continuous excavations and resulted in very interesting and important findings for getting acquainted with the early civilization in Kosovo.
Mountains
Accursed Mountains
A spectacular mountain range slicing the Western Balkans, extending from North Albania to Kosovo and Eastern Montenegro. Hiking across Via-Dinarica and the Peaks of the Balkans, crossing the routes that pass through the Accursed Mountains, is a life-changing experience.
Bajgora Region
Located in the Northern part of Kosovo, this region is known for soft hiking routes and delicious food offered by local guesthouses. Hidden waterfalls of this region are there to be explored. Stories about miners of Trepca will accompany you during your journey in this region.
Sharri Mountains
The Ski Resort of Brezovica, one of Kosovo’s top attractions is part of the National Park in the mountain range extending from Kosovo to the northwest of the Republic of Macedonia and Albania. At 900 m (2,953 ft) to 2,524 m (8,281 ft) above sea level, it makes skiing or hiking a unique experience.
Waterfalls
Mirusha
The Mirusha Waterfalls are a series of waterfalls found in the Mirusha Park, in central Kosovo. The waterfalls have, over time, created canyons and caves, which are famous throughout the country. The river has carved a 10 kilometers (6 mi) canyon and created 13 lakes with waterfalls between them.
Drini Bardhe
The Drini i Bardhë river presents you an impressive 25-meter high waterfall, with its powerful stream that makes you shiver even in scorching summer temperatures. Part of a series of natural waterfalls in the area, over time, the water has created canyons and caves, worth a visit.
Stantërg-Bare River
A hidden waterfall located in the Northen Kosovo in the village of Stanterg close to Trepca Mine. Comparing to Mirusha and Drini, this waterfall is consider smaller. It is opened and accessible for all, year around. Make sure you camera is charged for capturing incredible photos.
Lakes
Liqenati
At 1,970 m (6,463 ft), the lake on Mount Liqenat in the Accursed Mountain range in Western Kosovo, it takes the name after this place. The Liqenat lake is a favorite sport for hikers of the Rugova Canyon or nearby peaks, like Liqenat at 2,341 m (7,680 ft) and Guri i kuq at 2,522 m (8,274 ft).
Gazivoda
With a surface area of 11.9 km2 (4.6 sq mi) Gazivoda Lake is the biggest in Kosovo. It formed by the Ibër River, which flows into it. Activities like water-pedaling, kayaking and fishing are offered during the season and can be combined with biking, paragliding or climbing.
Batllava
A 48m deep lake located in the region of Podujeva. Water bikes, swimming and fishing activities are available during the spring and summer seasons.
Restaurants around the lake offer international and local receipts emphasizing a famous trout fish of the region.
Museums
National Museum
The National Museum of Kosovo, in the center of the capital, Prishtina, was founded in 1949. The museum comprises of archaeology, ethnography, and natural science departments. In 1959, the department for the study of history and the National Liberation War was added.
Museum of Cristlas
The National Museum of Crystals and Minerals in Trepça, north Kosovo, is of particular importance for Kosovo. The crystals exhibited at the museum were discovered and excavated in this ore-rich area by employees and engineers of Trepça Mines.
Prizren League
The League of Prizren was an Albanian political organization established on 10 June 1878 in Prizren. Its program and movement were crucial in the history of the Albanian nation. The Museum of the League of Prizren exhibits documents, clothes and artifacts of that time.
Religious Sites
Decan Monastery
A medieval Christian Orthodox monastery located in Western Kosovo, part of the World Heritage sites named “Medieval Monuments in Kosovo”. Always worth a visit to learn more about the history of religions and spirituality in the area and enjoy the beautiful religious artwork on display.
Sinan Pasha Mosque
An Ottoman mosque in the city of Prizren, Kosovo. It was built in 1615 by Sofi Sinan Pasha, bey of Budim. The mosque overlooks the main street of Prizren and is a dominant feature in the town’s skyline.
It remains open for tourists, year around (except the praying times).
Mother Theresa Cathedrale
A Roman Catholic Cathedral being constructed in Prishtina, Kosovo in 2007. The cathedral is dedicated to the Albanian-Indian Roman Catholic nun and missionary, Saint Teresa of Calcutta. Climbing on the tower of cathedral is open for visitors offering a view towards Prishtina City.
Handicrafts
Filigrees
A delicate jewelry art work is a well preserved tradition of some families of Prizren and Peja.
Old crafts
Old-crafts such as: plismakers or blacksmiths are still active and offer their products.
Clothes
Red, white and black color is dominant in traditional clothes. Each region has its own design.
