Vivid nights in Chiang Mai
When the darkness is about to fall, bustling Chiang Mai is cooled down by the evening breeze. The city turns lively again. Sometimes, it is more comfortable for an easy night out.
In the old quarter, Wat Phra Sing and Wat Chedi Luang are lighted up and allow their sacred architectures to glow out of the dark deep blue sky. You will see the ancient Temples, which differ from during the day time. Wat Umong, known for its tunnels under the temple complex, will be covered by a magical atmosphere during twilight. If you go a little further to the adjacent doi suthep, you will certainly be amazed by the magnificent view of Chiang Mai at night with fewer tourists.
While making your way through the darkness, you may find many food stalls come to life. Doi Ang Khang
Ang Khang Royal Project StationAlso known as Doi Ang Khang (doi means hill in Thai), Ang Khang Royal Agricultural Station is the Royal Project’s, a foundation His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej has founded to help raise living standard of underprivileged hilltribes, first station founded in TKTKTK to research and demonstrate on vegetable, fruits and flowers. Ang Khang Royal Project covers a vast area of Ang Khang Hill that offers scenic views and nice weather all year round, especially during November and January when the temperature reaches its coldest.
It is also home to several attractions, such as:Bonsai Garden: Located in front of the station, Bonsai Garden houses various temperate and winter Bonsai, featuring herb trees from all over the map. November to January is the best time to visit this garden.Kiew Lom View Point: It is where you immerse yourself with the breathtaking view of Ang Khang Hill, soaking up the stunning sunrise and sea of fog in the morning hours. Doi Suthep-Pui National Park
Covering an area of 262 sq. km., this luxuriant park is home to more than 300 bird species and nearly 2,000 species of ferns and flowering plants.
Most tourists visiting Chiang Mai often go to doi suthep which is a part of Doi Suthep-Pui national park. Doi Suthep-Pui National Park covers the areas of Amphur Mae Rim, Amphur Hang Dong, and Amphur Mueang in Chiang Mai. The national park contains Doi Suthep, Doi Buak Ha, and Doi Pui which are sources of rivers and share many tourist attractions. Chiang Mai’s Attractions Wat Phra That Doi Suthep : one of the north’s most sacred temples in Chiang Mai for many years.
Phra Tamnak Phu Phing : a palace located in Doi Buak Ha that is 4-km beyond Wat Phra That Doi Suthep. Visitors can go sightseeing gardens and flowers like roses around the palace. Nam Tok Huay Kaew : the waterfall holds water year-round. Visitors can go tracking or birdwatching among green circumstances. King Naresuan The Great Pagoda
Located at Mueang Ngai Village. The locals built the stupa to mark the stay of King Naresuan the Great before he led his troop to invade Angwa in Myanmar in 1604.
King Naresuan The Great PagodaThe pagoda is located in the city of Chiang Dao, Mueng Ngai. Somdet Phra Naresuan Maharat was one of the Siam’s most revered monarchs known for his ability to fight against enemies and his campaigns to free Siam from Burmese rules. He marched an army to defeat the enemies in Thailand therefore; the locals from where he had his stopover built the monument or pagoda to honor the victory of King Naresuan. The pagoda at Mueng Ngai was built by the locals during the time when King Naresuan had stopover at Mueng Ngai before he and his army marched to Ungwa, Burma in B.E.2147.
The width of the pagoda is 10.30metres and the height is 25.12metres. It is an octagonal based statue of King Naresuan. One of the sides appears the statue of King Naresuan standing on a pedestal, which made of black metal, wearing military uniform with a sword in his left hand while his right hand is holding a gold ewer shedding water on the ground as a symbolical of donation. He did not wear the Mala.
The statue height is approximately 2metres. Engraved tablets on each side of the base depict the King’s royal duties. Interspersed with the marble panels are depictions of his royal history, designed by Fine Art Department and was done in B.E.2513.
Mon Cham
Mon Cham is located on a hill ridge in the area of Mong Nong Hoi village, Mae Rim. It is 40 minutes far from the central of Chiang Mai. The area was previously a desolate forest and was named as Kiu Seau. Later, villagers came over the area and turned it into an Opium farm. But, finally, the Royal Project took over and changed the area into Nong Hoi Royal Project. The weather up here in Mon Cham gets chilly all year around and you will get to wake up to an early morning fog. Besides, there are many view points up here where you can spot the spectacular view of green mountains.
Also, on the top of the mountain on the east, there is a view point called ‘Mon Long’ which is a perfect spot for seeing the whole area of the Royal Project as well as the sea mist. If you turn around to the southern part of the area, you will see Mong Nong Hoi village and the development center of Royal Project which is surrounded by vegetable bed for the purpose of researching such as Artichokes, Lemon thyme, Mint, Camomile, Rosemary, Plum, Seedless Grapes, Strawberry, Red Olive, Tomato, Doi Kham.
