Water Sports in Cayman Islands
MAKE YOUR SPLASH
There may officially be seven seas across this earth, but there is only one that’s worthy of being called Caribbean. And Cayman is where that sea is at its best.
BOATING
CHARTER A BOAT OF YOUR OWN
Early Caymanians were lauded as some of the world’s greatest mariners. Today, a strong maritime heritage remains, with fishermen bringing in the catch of the day and school children learning to swim as part of their curriculum. Places such as Star Fish Point on North Side are where all the locals spend their time, so why not follow their example and simply charter a boat of your own?
DIVING
DIVING EXPLORATION AND INSTRUCTION
The Cayman Islands gives both the novice and the experienced some of the most amazing dive sites in the world, as environmentally protected reefs surround each of our three islands. Fortunately, Cayman have some of the most experienced and qualified dive operators and instructors to assist you in your next underwater adventure.
FISHING
FISHING IN THE CAYMAN ISLANDS
In Cayman, fishing is often called the unofficial national sport. Prized game like Blue Marlin, Tuna, Wahoo, Mahi-Mahi and Barracuda are caught year round. Fishermen have the option of different sites and styles with reef fishing, fly fishing, deep sea fishing and more. Charter a ship and learn from local captains about Bonefish, Tarpon, and Permit, or attend one of the local tournaments during the year, hosted by the Angling Club or Rotary Club. The top events are the Cayman Islands International Fishing Tournament and the Barcadere Classic.

Kayaking can give any voyager incomparable views of the Cayman Islands’ natural wonders. Tours can take you to magical places that are otherwise inaccessible – with several operators who will help you make the most of your expedition, as well as teach you more about the vast ecosystem here. Perhaps one of our most special options is the bioluminescence tour, a night-time, fully guided kayak tour where visitors can experience this natural phenomenon. Described as the Northern Lights of the Caribbean, the spectacular bioluminescence found at Rum Point occurs in just 10 other places worldwide.
KITESURFING
LESSONS IN KITE SURFING
For thrill seekers looking for a different way to see the islands, kite surfing is the perfect choice. Grand Cayman and Little Cayman have some of the most stunning scenery and watching kite surfers do jumps over the dock and race boats is a sight to see The sport uses the wind to pull riders on a small surfboard, similar to wakeboarding and there are operators across the islands who offer lessons.
PADDLEBOARDING
STAND UP PADDLEBOARDING
Paddleboarding requires calm seas and light winds. Fortunately, Cayman has both. If one side of the islands has rough water, the other side is normally smooth. There are spots to rent paddleboards on Seven Mile Beach, East End and North Side, as well as on Little Cayman. This activity is great for the entire family as children as young as six can take part.
SAILING
JOIN OUR SAILING COMMUNITY
Cayman has fostered a strong recreational sailing community. The esteemed Cayman Islands Sailing Club is affiliated with the ISAF and the Olympics, with a school and training programme accompanying classes for younger sailors. If you are interested in a charter, operators can accommodate scheduled services.
