Take a trip back in time and visit an authentic Embera Indian village where these indigenous people are committed to preserving a traditional lifestyle and will share the traditional values of their daily life. The cultural treasure of the first inhabitants of the coast and Panamanian rainforest come alive and are much the same today as they were when the discoverer of the Pacific Ocean, Vasco Nunez de Balboa, first set foot in Panama.
Glimpse at what the early explorers found so many years ago when you meet these gentle, friendly people and are welcomed by the head of the community with their traditional hospitality.
Discover their simple way of life and see first-hand the different aspects of their culture through a display of folk dances that tell their story.
Stroll through the village, ask questions, and interact with the warm and friendly people. Remember that you are guests in their homes and a good measure of common sense and sensitivity to the privacy of the indigenous people will be regarded and is appreciated. The natives will invite you to explore the surrounding areas, which are teeming with birds and wildlife. During your visit, the Emberas will give you a glimpse into their mystical rituals and their amazing knowledge of medicinal plants and natural pigments.
The men and women of the Embera are spectacular and skilled artisans and produce beautiful pieces that are available for purchase as souvenirs of this unique experience.
After your time at the village you will then make your way to Miraflores Visitor Centre, a center whose exhibitions focus on the famous Panama Canal. Four exhibition halls cover just about every aspect of the Panama Canal, including its construction and its operation. During your visit, you can watch vessels cruise the waters and witness the lock gates open and close. There is also a 3D movie played on-site that highlights notable events through the Panama Canal’s history.
