Spend time in Gamla Stan, an island located between the Baltic Sea and the Lake Malaren. Also known as Old Town, this medieval city has seen a revival in recent years and is now a popular tourist attraction.
Enjoy a guided walk along cobbled streets and narrow alleyways as you learn Gamla Stan’s fascinating history and admire the colorful, German influenced buildings. Pass by the narrowest street in the city that is less than 1 meter (3.29 feet) wide and make your way to Stortorget, the main square containing the Stock Exchange Building, the town well plus a mixture of shops and private residences.
You will see many landmarks including the Kungliga Slottet Royal Palace and Storkyrkan, also known as the Big Church or Coronation Church. This church is the oldest house of worship in the city and a prime example of Swedish Brick Gothic architecture.
Board your transportation and make your way to Vikingaliv, one of Stockholm’s newest and most exciting museums. Step inside and be instantly transported into early Viking life, as you meet and follow the characters of Ragnfrid’s Saga. Through this historically accurate presentation and Viking ride you will hear their stories, see how the Vikings lived and gain an appreciation for the role and influence of women in their society. While here you can visit the cafe for a taste of authentic Viking food and do a little raiding and plundering of your own in the gift shop before your trip back to port.
