Lanzarote’s northern region hosts a variety of gorgeous natural environments. Within the Archipelago Chinijo Nature Park, enjoy a scenic hike in the Nature Monument Volcan de la Corona and Famara Cliffs. Observe volcanic landscapes, lava caves and tunnels, and other breathtaking sights.
Begin your hike in the town of Ye. Ascend toward Lo Corona’s crater, absorbing beautiful views of vineyards and lava flows known as “malpais.” Large basaltic blocks extend down to a pretty white sand coast. After exploring the majestic crater, continue on the trail to La Corona’s east side. A 4.7-mile (7.6 km) lava tunnel awaits. The last mile of this tunnel/cave is under the sea due to the volcano’s eruption in the last Ice Age.
La Corona is aligned with another four volcanic cones. This trek takes you to three of them: Volcan de la Cerca, Los Helechos, and La Quemada. This stunning volcano alignment rises over massive Famara, offering captivating views of Lanzarote.
Continue your tour to the highest part of the Famara Cliffs, a true marvel of nature. A huge wall of rock rises more than 500 meters from the sea and spans over 13 miles along the northwest coast. During your walk, enjoy memorable views of Chinijo Archipelago, the group of islets north of Lanzarote. You’ll also see the highest point, Peas del Chache (670 meters). From this elevated point, you will discover a nature area with colorful flora and fauna.
