You will feel transported to a bygone era while in the train’s restored WWI-era carriages as you leave Picton on a challenging climb that is the 4th steepest rail in New Zealand.
Ride past rolling hills, through tunnels and more on the 50-minute journey as you make your way to Blenheim where you will have ample time to explore the town at your leisure. You’ll have at least 2 and a half hours to stroll along the river, shop for souvenirs, or enjoy delicious, world-class cuisine in one of the many gourmet cafes and restaurants. While here make sure to sample one of the area’s world-famous wines! Enjoy access to an optional complimentary shuttle bus exclusively for train passengers, departing from Blenheim Railway Station (The Wine Station) to the world-class Omaka Aviation Heritage Centre, which showcases WW1 and WW2 aircraft and artifacts.
Upon your return to Picton, approximately 90-minutes via the steam train, you will have more time to for exploring this beautiful little seaport which is located at the head of the Queen Charlotte Sound. Return at your leisure to your cruise ship via the handy shuttle.
