This half-day tour of Ko Samui will tantalize you with its pristine beauty and culture. Your excursion includes seeing the island’s magnificent beaches and notable sites such as the Big Buddha and Grandpa Rock. You will be able to purchase fresh coconut juice, visit a local fishing village, and have some time for shopping in Nathon Town.
Located off the east coast of Kra Isthmus, the narrowest part of the Malay peninsula in which both Thailand and Myanmar share, Ko Samui is the second largest Thai island. It boasts coral reefs, white sandy beaches, and coconut palms. Until the early 1970s, Ko Samui was an isolated community having little to do with Thailand. It was even devoid of roads. Now, tourism, along with exporting coconut and rubber, is the primary industry.
You will be driven past some of Ko Samui’s most glorious beaches. With its crystal blue waters of the Gulf of Thailand, heavenly white beaches, and draping coconut palms, you’ll feel like you’re in a dream.
Proceed to see famous locales like the Big Buddha and Grandpa and Grandma Rocks. The Big Buddha is a 12 meter (39 ft) tall golden statue seated at the top of an elaborate outdoor stairway at Wat Phra Yai. It is located on a small rocky island, Koh Faan, just off of Ko Samui. The Buddha’s sitting position represents the journey in his life when he subdued temptation by the devil-figure, Mara.
From such a spiritual and contemplative site, you’ll also venture to Grandpa (Hin Ta) and Grandma (Hin Yai) Rocks at Lamai Beach. Though it is an interesting geological formation, what makes these rocks noteworthy is they seem to be in the form of human genitalia. Once you see them, you’ll understand why.
Rounding off your tour, visit a fishing village and witness how the locals live. Though times have changed since before the 1970s, the old spirit is still present.
Before departing from your tour, you will have time for some bargain shopping in Nathon Town. Though, a lesson in bartering may be helpful if you want a good deal.
