Lesotho, a high-altitude, landlocked kingdom encircled by South Africa, is crisscrossed by a network of rivers and mountain ranges including the 3,482m-high peak of Thabana Ntlenyana. On the Thaba Bosiu plateau, near Lesotho’s capital, Maseru, are ruins dating from the 19th-century reign of King Moshoeshoe I. Your home for the next two nights is a charming lodge in the beautiful Kamberg Valley in the heart of the majestic Drankensberg Mountains. This rustic, yet luxurious lodge is one of South Africa’s best culinary retreats and you can expect an incredible dining experience during your stay here.
Day 04: Drakensburg B
Hop into your car and start driving through what is probably the most beautiful region in South Africa. You can choose to explore Giants Castle Nature Reserve and see numerous waterfalls, pools and lush, forested gorges. Travel to Kamberg Nature Reserve if you want to and discover bushman rock art sites within the reserve.
If you want some activity, you can choose to hike on the scenic trails of the Drakensberg before returning to your lodge.
Day 05: Drakensburg – Spion Kop B-L-D
You are off to the next destination of your South African adventure with a short drive to Spion Kop after a delicious breakfast. The lodge where you’ll stay for the next two nights is set against the backdrop of the Drakensberg Mountains, overlooking the infamous battlefield of Spion Kop.
The lodge specialises in the history of the South African War (2nd Anglo-Boer War 1899-1902) with the Battle of Spion Kop being the focal point. It offers evocative and insightful battlefield tours, which you can book (own expense) and visit memorial sites as well as important strategic battle points with highly knowledgeable guides capable of bringing this dramatic period of South African history to life.
