This exclusive, upscale tour of the Hamakua Coast takes you along the northern edge of the Big Island. Avoiding the large tour crowds, you’ll pass through the hot, dry lands of Kona to the tropical, lush green rainforest. A brief stop is made at the Parker Ranch, one of the oldest and largest cattle ranches in the United States, spreading across approximately 150,000 acres of the island. Next to the Parker Ranch in Waimea, an old cowboy town with beautiful green rolling hills.
Next you will view some of the Big Island’s most beautiful waterfalls, including the famous Akaka and Kahuna Falls.
Your exclusive drive down some of Hawaii’s old highways and back roads bring you to Lauphoehoe. Learn about the devastating tsunami in 1946 and how it affected the locals who lived there. Afterward, the road twists and turns through a lush tropical rain forest, which is lined with streams of tiny waterfalls. As you drive past this Hawaiian paradise, you’ll see the Onomea Arch which is a sea arch, fabled to have been created by King Kamehameha himself when he threw a spear. This natural formation is rumored to have been around for thousands of years before an earthquake in 1956 caused its collapse.
After the scenic drive past the Onomea Bay, have the opportunity to see the Kaumana Lava Tube, which is located on the edge of the main city. As you travel into the cave, examine the effects of cooled molten lava on the ceiling, walls, and floor, an undoubtedly fascinating view!
