Create lasting memories in the Tasman Peninsula on your day visiting Port Arthur. This peninsula is in south-east Tasmania, Australia, south, and west of Forestier Peninsula, to which it connects via an isthmus called Eaglehawk Neck.
You will meet your local, knowledgeable and friendly guide after coming ashore in Port Arthur next to the Visitor Centre. On this tour, you will enjoy the amazing scenery of the Tasman Peninsula which surrounds the Historic Port Arthur Site. Highlights will include Tasman Arch, Blow Hole, Devils Kitchen, Eaglehawk Neck, Pirates Bay Look Out, Remarkable Cave and Federation Chocolate.
Much of the peninsula is protected as a national park, given its beauty and natural diversity, and is home to many animals including the brushtail possum, wallabies, wombats, bandicoots, Australian fur seals, penguins, dolphins and migrating whales as well as the endangered swift parrot and many forest-dwelling birds.
This spectacular coastal environment includes soaring 300-meter high sea cliffs and several fascinating coastal rock formations such as the Blow Hole, Tasman Arch, Devil’s Kitchen, and Remarkable Cave. Access to the Tasman Peninsula is via Eaglehawk Neck, a thin isthmus just 30-meters wide and once guarded by dogs to prevent convicts escaping. The Officer’s Quarters (1832), reputed to be the oldest wooden military building remaining in Australia, is the only structure left on the isthmus from the convict days and is now a museum interpreting the history of Eaglehawk Neck.
Remarkable Cave is a short drive past Safety Cove following the sandy beach coastline, with stunning seaside views to Basket Bay and the cave which is a tunnel carved through the sheer rockface by the erosion from the Southern Ocean. The opening of the cave from the observation platform is roughly the shape of Tasmania.
Before your tour ends, make a stop at Federation Artisan Chocolate, an iconic Tasmanian chocolate brand for over 30 years. The owners are involved in the entire chocolate-making process, starting from the growing of the cacao beans to the making of their bars. Committed to ensuring the product uses ingredients that have been grown and made sustainably and ethically, they carefully follow the supply chain of each ingredient, getting to know where each type of cacao bean is grown, that they have sustainable practices and if they are ethical and fair employers.
At the end of your tour you will be transported back to the pier area and your ship. Take advantage of your time in port and experience this picturesque destination with stunning beaches, rolling hills, towering sea cliffs and an abundance of native animals.
